Lansdell runs a half marathon!
Story
Hi everyone!
i have entered a half marathon which will be the longest distance i will have ever run before :D
A little to add about my story and why it will be quite a big achievement for me to complete
I stopped running as a way of staying fit in 2011.
In 2012 I went traveling for most of the year (little traditional exercise was taken part in), I came back to Australia and from a too much bike riding too quickly, i stuffed up my knees. They are now only just starting to get better, thanks to a good physio.
i must say, 3 years is a long time to have knees that don't work properly
In March this year i started running again. I was running 30seconds on and 1minute walking for about 15-20minutes. BORING.
I built on this and got to a 1min:1min, run:walk, then kept progressing and started with a walk to warm up, 10minute run, then walk to cool down. It progressed like this for a while.
In mid June i ran 6km which i was pretty pleased with. And on the 19th of July i ran 45minutes!!! which is pretty huge considering where i had come from.
I am planning out my time to hopefully be able to run 5minute km's for the half marathon. I think i can do it!
FAST FORWARD to mid september
I ran 17km the other weekend and the extra 4km to complete the half marathon won't be an issue!! 5min kms might be however!
It is now the 28th of September, the run is just under three weeks away. I have one last big training run to take part in, two weeks of tapering, lots of eating and hopefully collecting some more donations!
Two weeks out i ran 22km which i was pretty pleased about! so the distance and time is doable!
it is now the 17th of october and i have been eating lots of carbs, resting, stretching and just getting excited for the run :D
CAN'T WAIT!
Why am i raising for Edmund Rice Camps?
These camps are run every school holidays for kids and families from all walks of life and have been a HUGE part of my life in recent years and have contributed immensley towards who i am now today!
As i have not been camping as much as i use to, i still want to be able to contribute in other ways.
By doing some fundraising through this run i know that i can still make a small contribution towards giving participants and leaders on camp the best time possible.
if you would like to learn more or even come along and see how your donation has contributed, look them up on facebook or the net for how to get involved.
